The archipelago Los Roques, «Heaven in Earth» according to Christopher Columbus, classified as National Park Reserve is one of the most important marine reserve of The Caribbean Sea: a total of 225 000 hectares of atolls... The spectacle is already on the earth with the white-sand beaches, which stand out from the turquoise waters. It will continue in the air with the continual ballet of the frigates, herons and others pelicans whose nosedives will irresistibly draw your attention to this great aquarium. Intense submarine life, spectacular corals: all is combined in order to live the “Big Blue”.

FAUNA

The fauna of the archipelago is characterised by the contrast between poverty of land species and the incredible beauty and diversity of the marine and air fauna.

SITES FOR DIVING

• BOCA DEL MEDIO : 10 to 30 metres deep. Great variety of corals flora and fauna.

• PIEDRA DE LA GUASA : 30 to 40 metres deep. It is one of the best spots to observe a great variety of fish species like barracudas or hippocampes.

• SOLAPA RABUSQUI : Caves where numerous shellfishes and sleepy sharks live.

• BOCA DE COTE : spectacular submarine wall until 70 metres deep. A great diversity of corals and fishes.

• CAVO SAL : vertical walls with caves full of multicoloured sponges and formations of black coral.

• NORONQUI : formation of a variety of coral called with its scientific name “acropora palmata”

• DOS MOSQUICES : exploration of the the south barrel reefs of the archipelago where you will doubtless meet sea tortoises.

• NORDISQUI : At the north of the island, you can visit wrecks where many lobsters have taken refuge.

• BOCA DE SEBASTOPOL : Site very busy by sharks and rays.

IMPORTANT :

• Present a certificate of diving recognised in the world (Padi, Naui, Cmas, Ssi, Ymca, Masd…)

• Diving is prohibited 12 hours before taking plane or 24 hours after 3 days of non-stopping diving.

• Using harpoon is forbidden. Touching reefs is not allowed so as to preserve the ecosystem.
